Don’t Fake It Until You Make It - The Truth about Authenticity…

We’ve all heard the phrase “fake it until you make it.” And many of us have actually put it into practice. From time to time, it works. But most of the time it doesn’t work for the long haul.  

If you haven’t heard of the FIUYMI concept. It’s idea that if you do anything with enough conviction, that you will seem credible enough for people to listen. In a real estate world where recruiting is happening a lot, it’s important that you don’t promise more than you can deliver. Your credibility suffers, your energy will eventually be depleted, and those agents will eventually reveal (and probably talk about) the fact that you were faking the whole time.

If you decide to fake it until you make it, you need to be sure that you while you are faking it, you are also working your tail off to learn, study, become and expert in whatever it is that you are faking. If you are trying to be like the recruiting power houses, don’t just copy what they do, sit down with them and see how much you can learn. Ask questions, create a plan, personalize it, and move forward. You can’t  just get on stage and say the same things and do the same dance and expect people to believe you. Why would you work for you? What have you done to earn the title of leader? If you can’t answer those questions with confidence, you may need to do a little more homework. 

The other option is to be honest and authentic about the value that you can add. Start by writing down 3 things that you are REALLY good at. What’s your wheelhouse? What are you an expert in? Then write down 3 things that you challenge you. Instead of faking the second three, inspire with the first 3. In the real estate world, there are buyers agents, sellers agents, recruiters, investors, farm and ranch, commercial, coaching. Any one of these specialties can be broken down into 3 strengths and 3 challenges. 

In the world of real estate recruiting, you can’t just tell everyone why the company is great, they can google that. They need to know why they should believe you specifically and follow in your foot steps. 

Don’t fake that part. They will figure you out. 

Be you. Be genuine. Add value. Then you will never have to fake it.
